Our paths intersected during my Newswires days — Steve would edit the crap I’d punch through to slot and turn it into something that wasn’t crap. But above all, as an editor, SHIGGINS (his private-message username) was chill. All the time. In fact, he made those Newswires days palatable for the entire Madrid team. And as a fellow Yank, Steve and I got along just fine, especially when he’d forward his sardonic Internet finds, such as this or this. Although he and I weren’t close in the years after returning stateside, we did keep in touch, and I am certain my occasional emails would brighten his day as much as his would brighten mine. Simply put, Steve was a helluva good guy, and I, like many others, am a better person for having known him.
